Spartanburg, SC- Jay Earl Pierce, Sr., husband of Alice Moore Pierce, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
Jay was born on October 29, 1938 in Kinston, NC to the late Isaac and Pauline Sauls Pierce.
While serving in the Air Force, Jay took courses at Oregon State, and later became a self-employed accountant. Jay was a deacon at First Baptist Church where he also was a member of the choir. He led the Encouragers Bible Study and Fellowship Group. His contagious smile warmed the hearts of many and his desire to share his life-changing experience with the Lord became one of his most motivating factors in reaching out to others.
In addition to his wife, Alice, Jay is survived by five children, Jay Pierce, Jr. and his wife Heidi, James Rigsby and his wife April, Lynn Pierce, Jennifer Vick and her husband Joel, and Terri Motes and her husband Mason; two step children, Jamie Trammell and Holly Harrison and her husband Ben; a brother, Bob Pierce and his wife Bobbie Jean; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Marshall and Mary Ellen Anderson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary. A celebration of Jay’s life will begin at 3:00 PM, officiated by Reverend Dr. Don Wilton. A private burial will be held prior to the service.
