Spartanburg- Raymond L. Hayes, 78, beloved husband of Marguerit Sherbert Hayes, died Saturday, September 1, 2012.
Raymond was born in Spartanburg, in the Drayton community on July, 25, 1933. He was a son of the late Coke and Ella Bouknight Hayes. Raymond was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of 1951. He was the purchasing agent with Clement Lumber Company for over 50 years. Raymond was one of the founding members of Co-op little League Baseball Park in Camp Croft. He was a former UMYF counselor, a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he held numerous positions. Raymond was very active in the National M.S. Group, the past president, and longtime worker in the local Spartanburg M.S. self-help group and was awarded their Volunteer of the year award.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Raymond is survived by a son, Neal (Pat); a grandson, Neely. He is also survived by a brother, Ralph (Mary) of Spartanburg and a sister, Bertie Wilson of Siler City, NC. Raymond leaves behind his bird, Bee Gee; He was predeceased by his brother, Emory Hayes
The family will receive friends at Dunbar Funeral Home on September 5, 2012 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Graveside Services will follow at 11:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
