Spartanburg, SC- Lorene Compton, 82, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, entered the presence of the Lord on August 25, 2012. She had been a resident of Skylyn Place for the last few years. Lorene was born on December 5, 1929 in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, and was the daughter of the late B. E. Turbeville and Nettie Lee Hocutt Turbeville. She graduated from Lambert High School in Lambert, Mississippi in 1947. She met her husband, Jack, in 1951 while attending secretarial college in Jackson, Mississippi. After their marriage that year, she came to reside in Spartanburg County for the remainder of her life. Jack and Lorene celebrated 54 years of marriage before Jack’s passing in 2005.
Her survivors include her three children, Phil (Cathy), Kenny (Mimi), and Gary (Ruth); ten grandchildren, Drew (Nicki), Ashley, Caroline, Christian, Jackson, Alex, Jane, Will, Ben, and Charlotte; and two great grandchildren, Grace and Parker.
Mrs. Compton was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church for almost 60 years and devoted countless hours in its ministries as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and church secretary. At the time of her death, she was a member of Covenant Baptist Church. Her faith was her life and she was tireless in her efforts to instill that faith in others. She was a most loving and generous person and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 in the sanctuary of Fairforest Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Gary Hensley and Reverend Joe Dempsey. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
