Spartanburg – Arthur Ray Lawter, Sr., 76, died Monday, August 20, 2012.
Ray was born on March 9, 1936 to the late Ralph and Ethel Bradley Lawter. He grew up with a love for automobiles that lead him into a career in auto repair. Ray started several successful businesses including Rays Trim Shop, Rays Auto Parts, and also co-founded Northside Auto Parts. He was the owner of Poppy’s Korner Store. Ray was also a lifetime member of Mill Village Masonic Lodge #360.
Ray is survived by one son, Bud Lawter and his wife Stacie of Roebuck; three daughters, Renee L. Martin of Roebuck, Susie Lawter of Pauline, Shannon Lawter of Spartanburg; and a sister, Eldora Elder (Walter) of Spartanburg, and Linda E. Lawter, the mother of his children.
Ray was blessed with eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Macky and Ronnie Lawter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Dunbar Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Heritage Memorial Gardens.
