Pacolet – Freda Bailey Hammonds, 81, wife of the late Billy Ray Hammonds, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 12, 2012.
Freda was born on January 5, 1931 in Boone County, West Virginia, to the late James Elbert and Lorraine Blankenship Bailey. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Mary Montgomery #231. Freda was a mother, housewife and a coal miner’s daughter.
She is survived by four sons, William E. Hammonds and Eddie R. Hammonds (Susie) of Proctoville, OH, Denzel Hammonds of Cowpens, Thurman Hammonds of Gaffney; three daughters, Freda L. Varner (David) of Pacolet, Rene Ellen Heath of Greer, Cecilia Worley (Darren) of Cowpens; a brother, Thomas Judson Bailey of Fairmont, WV; three sisters, Berlin Adkins and Wanda Sue Davidson of Harrisville, WV, and Lucil Sutphin of Burn House, WV. Freda was blessed 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by two sons, Auther Lee Hammonds, Samuel Hammonds; a daughter, Ida Bernice Hammonds, eight brothers; and four sisters.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00PM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Dunbar Funeral Home. A funeral service with Eastern Star rites will follow at noon officiated by Reverend Baxter Toler of Man, WV and Reverend Lisa Spencer of Pacolet, SC. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
