Lena Mae Hanna

Spartanburg, SC- Lena Mae “Lenay” Bryant Hanna, 90, wife of Dr. Charles Benjamin Hanna, died on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Born March 26, 1922 in Nichols, SC, she was the daughter of the late Furnie Smith and Leola Jane Bryant. Lenay attended Winthrop College and graduated from the Medical College as a laboratory and x-ray technologist in 1943. She worked at St. Francis Hospital, the Mullins Hospital, and the Medical College before becoming a wife, mother, and home engineer, which she loved the most. She was in numerous clubs and enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by her two sons, Dr. Charles Benjamin Hanna, Jr. and his wife Leah, and Dr. Richard Tinsley Hanna and his wife Holly; one daughter, Rebecca Hanna Jones and her husband Norman Fant Jones, Jr.; and ten grandchildren, Jennifer Hanna Ammons and her husband Damon, Charles Benjamin Hanna III and his wife Jill, Dr. Emily Hanna Crane and her husband Barry, Michael Phillip Hanna and his wife Melissa, Mary Hanna-Weir and her husband Scot, Patrick McKenzie Hanna and his wife Lauren, Norman Fant Jones III and Cadie, and Hanna-Betsill Jones. Also step granddaughters, Dr. Sarah Fiorentino Roush and her husband Seth, and Suzanne Fiorentino; and Great grands include, Coleman Ammons, William Tinsley Ammons, Arabella Hanna, Benjamin Hillen Hanna, Kathryn Crane, Ethan Crane, Luke Roush, Jacob Hanna-Weir, Meredith Hanna, and Rowan Fant Jones. The funeral service will be 3:00pm, Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Trinity Methodist Church. The burial will be private. The family will be at the home. In remembrance of Lenay, memorials may be made to the Dr. Charles & Lenay Hanna Endowed Scholarship at The Medical University of South Carolina, Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, 261 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29425; or to the charity of one’s choice.
