Valerie J Sloan

Moore- Valerie Jamison Sloan, 61, wife of David R. Sloan, died Saturday, January 5, 2013. at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills. Valerie was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 5, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine Rhodes Jamison. Valerie graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Keene State Teachers College, Keene NH. She was employed by the SC School for the Deaf and Blind for 15 years, where she taught music. After teaching music, she became a stay-at-home mom. Valerie enjoyed volunteering for local Day Care Centers. She was a past member of the El Bethel Choir and a member of the Catholic Church of Jesus Christ Our Risen Savior. Valerie was Vice President of the Cross Flags Corvette Club of Spartanburg and a member of the Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway. She was an avid NASCAR and football enthusiast and enjoyed pulling for the New England Patriots. In addition to her husband of 39 years, Valerie is survived by three sons; Stephen J. Sloan, Eric M. Sloan, and Andrew J. Sloan and his wife, Jennifer, and their son, Aiden W. Sloan, all of Simpsonville, SC. She is survived by a brother in law, Robert “Worm” Sloan, of Moore, SC. Valerie is also survived by a niece, Michelle Sloan of Atlanta; a nephew, Michael R. Sloan and his wife, Jessica, and a great niece, Natalie Sloan of Spartanburg. Valerie was preceded in death by their son William Russell Sloan. The family will receive friends at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Monday, January the 7, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 12:00 PM, at the Catholic Church of Jesus Christ Our Risen Savior, 2575 Reidville Road, Spartanburg, officiated by Father Ted Kalaw. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Roebuck, SC. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of the Carolinas, in Valerie’s name, to PO. Box 10735 Greenville, SC 29603-0735
