Spartanburg, SC- Elmer Franklyn Garvey, Jr., 79, husband of Kathy Sharpe Garvey, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 after a courageous two year battle with leukemia.
Born May 25, 1933 in Norwalk, Connecticut, Elmer was the son of the late Elmer F. and Agnes Casey Garvey, Sr. He retired from Drug Plastic & Glass in 2004. Elmer was an avid reader, and enjoyed reading history about the war between the states. He loved to travel and visit the beach, and devoted his time to his family. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Elmer is survived by his son, Donald Paul Garvey of Spartanburg and his daughter, Anna Kathleen Garvey; daughter Kim G. Hathaway and her husband, Steve, and their daughter, Stephanie H. Reagan and her husband, Brian, all of Hobe Sound, FL.
Elmer is predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Robin Murray, but survived by her children, Jennifer Murray of San Diego, CA, Courtney M. Pinnell and her husband, Jim, of Spartanburg, and Brendan Murray and his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Madison Kathleen Murray of Spartanburg.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013, 11:00am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, officiated by Father Gahan. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish Center.
