William Thomas Jordan

Spartanburg, SC- William Thomas “Tommy” Jordan, 90, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Tommy was born in Greenville, SC on April 11, 1922, later moving to Spartanburg where he lived until he joined the US Army Air Corp in 1940. He was a Distinguished Service Member throughout World War II. As a medic, first with the Air Corp and then with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, he accumulated five Battle Stars (Solomon Islands, Guam, Fiji, Normandy and Bastogne). He parachuted behind enemy lines on D-Day and into the city of Bastogne while it was surrounded by Germans. After the war ended, he returned to Spartanburg and married Lettie Stephens to whom he was devoted. They were married over 50 years until her death in 2003. Tommy worked for Mayfair Mills for forty years. He served as a deacon at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church in Roebuck for many years. He will be remembered as a beloved member of his church, Walnut Grove and Windsor House Assisted Living community. Tommy is survived by a nephew, James A. Stephens of Pauline, SC. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, J. C. Jordan. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 14, 2013, 2:00pm at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, officiated by Revered Richard Thomas and Reverend Mark Kozak. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376.
