Roebuck, SC – Bobby Joe Sanders, Sr., 80, husband of Annette Tolleson Sanders, died Thursday, February 28, 2013.
He was born on September 29, 1932 to the late Copher and Eva Cothran Sanders. Joe was a graduate of Roebuck High School, class of 1949 and a lifelong member of Roebuck Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 35 years and was the former music leader for 25 years. He considered his trade as neighborhood auto mechanic and was employed during his career with Spartan Automotive, NAPA, and most recently AutoZone. Joe was an avid softball player, a self-taught guitarist, as well as other stringed instruments and a proud member of Gideons International Spartanburg Camp for many years.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by three daughters, Marie (Bobby) Stevens of Woodruff, Teresa Cannady of Fountain Inn, Amanda (Jason) Timms of Roebuck; his son, Bobby Joe “Joey or BJ” (Nancy) Sanders, Jr. of Woodruff; two brothers, Manuel (Sue) Sanders, Cary (Jean) Sanders; and a sister, Mildred Elledge.
He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Honesty Stevens Martin, Clif Stevens, Liberty Sanders, Bobby Joe Sanders, III, Candace Cannady, Spencer Timms, Walker Timms; and seven great-grandchildren.
Joe was predeceased by three sisters, Louella Alverson, Mary Pettit, Jean Cromer (twin); and a granddaughter, Rebecca Sanders Terry.
The family will receive friends from 1:45 PM to 3:15 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Roebuck Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM, officiated by Reverend Dr. Tim Williams.
Interment will be in the Roebuck Baptist Church Cemetery.
