Spartanburg, SC- Charlotte Harper Stone, 77, of 17 Springdale Lane, Spartanburg, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Born on April 14, 1936, Sissy was a native of Lenoir, NC and was a daughter of the late Captain James Cunningham and Charlotte Critz Harper. She graduated from George School and was a graduate of Wellesley College, class of 1958. Sissy moved to Spartanburg with her husband George in 1965. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent and the LaAnna United Methodist Church in LaAnna, Pennsylvania. Sissy was also a member of the Fortnightly Garden Club, Tome and Tare Garden Club, and The Assembly. Sissy is survived by her husband, George Eliot Stone, and her three children, Ruth Gray Stone Ripley and her husband, Clements, of Charleston, SC and Sarasota, FL, Lucy Hull Stone of Greenville, SC, and Eliot Stone and his wife, Michel, of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Charlotte Rosemary Cusano, Louis Caporale Cusano, and Emma Harper Cusano of Morristown, NJ, and Mary Eliot Stone, Elizabeth Finley Stone, and William George Stone of Spartanburg SC; and one brother, James Cunningham Harper, Jr. and his wife, Eleanor, of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews; and Mac, the family English Setter. Sissy was predeceased by her brother George Finley Harper and her sister Lucy Harper Grier. The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care given by Dr. James Bearden and wishes to thank the staff of the Spartanburg Regional Hospice and of Integrys Caregiving. Special thanks go to Linda Pearson and Eula Foster. A memorial service to celebrate Sissy’s life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00am, in the Episcopal Church of the Advent, officiated by The Reverend Stephen Y. McGehee. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish and Community Life Center. Inurnment will be private in the Cloister Columbarium, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent. In remembrance of Sissy, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Advent Foundation, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg SC 29302; The Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; LaAnna United Methodist Church, 152 Route 191, LaAnna, PA 18326; or a charity of one’s choice.
