Rodney Carlisle Petty

Roebuck, SC - Rodney Carlisle Petty, age 55, husband of Beth Petty, won his battle over cancer on Saturday, June 15, 2013, when he was called home by our Heavenly Father. Born in Spartanburg, Rodney was the son of the late Thomas Carlisle and Dorothy “Dot” Johnson Petty. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of 1976. Rodney worked at Spartanburg Coca Cola Bottling Company as Service/Fleet Manager for 33 years. He was a member of West Springs Baptist Church. He was a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and served on several committees which included DJJ of Union outreach and the West Springs Project. He was also a member of the Roebuck Masonic lodge #357. In addition to his devoted and loving wife Beth, Rodney is survived by his son, Tyler Petty (Stacey) of Moore; his daughter, Meg Petty of Roebuck; Granddaughter, Sawyer Mae Petty; four sisters, Rhonda Alexander (Don) of Union, Susan Weathers (Keith) of Moore, Lisa Williams, Kathy Lane both of Spartanburg; two brothers, Sam Godfrey (Joyce) of Moore, Bill Godfrey (Lora) of Roebuck; mother in law, Margaret Godfrey; an uncle, Bob Petty (Lynne) of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews. He was affectionately know and will be remembered as “Aunt Rodney.” The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Dunbar Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Heritage Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth, Mike Gault and Dean Hammett. Pallbearers will be Bill Godfrey, Keith Weathers, Don Alexander, Darrell Kendrick, Robbie Woody, Gene Garrett, Wayne Ridings, and Joel Stover. Honorary Pallbearers will be Spartanburg Coca Cola Service/Fleet Department. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rodney may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice; 101 East Wood St., Spartanburg, SC 29303 or American Cancer Society; 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
