William Armstrong "Red" Coleman

William Armstrong Coleman II, 86, husband of his beloved late wife, Terry Miller Coleman, died Monday, July 15, 2013 in Spartanburg, SC. Red was born March 13, 1927 in Spartanburg to the late Maddie Day Vaughan and Armstrong Rutherford Coleman. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended the University of South Carolina, where he was an active member of the USC Varsity Basketball Team. Red honorably served his country in the US Army in World War II as a Corporal in the 10th Airdrome Squadron in Vienna, Austria. An avid sportsman, Red enjoyed playing tennis, snow-skiing, fishing, and spent many summers, in his early years, at Lake Summit honing his abilities as a trick water-skier. He was a lifelong supporter of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and a member of the Silver Spur Club. Heaven has gained the biggest Gamecock fan of all and Red now can see all the games from the very best seats. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and active with 721 Ministries. Red spent his career at Synalloy Corporation and Interstate Johnson Lane. He is survived by his four children Vaughan Coleman Moore and her husband, Cary Parker Moore, Jr.; William Armstrong Coleman IV and his wife, Julie Coleman; Jane Miller Coleman and Jeffrey Viscardi; and Vinson Miller Coleman and his wife, Epsie Nolan Coleman; and 5 grandchildren, Cary Parker Moore, III, Drew Keifer Moore, Robert Simmons Moore and his wife, Susan Adair Moore, Elizabeth Coleman Moore, and Caroline Jane Coleman. The family would like to thank Robert Gist for his years of dedicated friendship to Red and the Coleman family, as well as Summit Hills for their compassionate care of Red. A graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens will be Thursday, July 18, at 10:30am, officiated by Sam Hunter. Family will receive friends immediately following the service at The Piedmont Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 721 Ministries, 4 Seminole Drive, Greenville, SC 29605.
