Roebuck, SC- Elzie Lowry Outz, 92, husband of the late Mattie Switzer Outz, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
Born April 19, 1921 in Edgefield County, SC, Lowry was a son of the late Elzie Victor and Allene Lowry Outz, and is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He honorably served his country in the Air Force during WWII in Italy. He was 15th Air Force, 421st Squadron from 1942-1946. Lowry was a plumber by trade and worked for A.D. Carter Plumbing and W. R. Outz Plumbing; he retired in 1986 from Blackman Uler Chemical. Lowry was a Charter member of the Roebuck Volunteer Fire Department, and was a faithful, lifelong member of Roebuck Presbyterian Church. At Roebuck Presbyterian, he was the Sunday school superintendent and Deacon.
He is survived by two daughters, Nora “Happy” O. Bishop (Sam), and Vicki O. Rhodes (Danny); one son, E.L. Outz (Joyce); six grandchildren, Angie B. Woodard (Steve), Scott H. Bishop, Dawn H. Lowe (Scotty), Zack A. Hughes, Alison O. Martin (Dave), and Beau L. Outz (Lindsey); nine great grandchildren, Will and Jake Woodard, Shelby Bishop, Kaitlyn Lowe, Avery Hughes, Emerson and Bentley McLane, Lily Kate Adams, and Layla Outz; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Lowry was predeceased by three brothers, Bruce A., J.L., and W. Rhett Outz; and one sister Mattie O. Cudd.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 13th, 4:00pm in Roebuck Presbyterian Church cemetery, officiated by Reverend Ray Bobo.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
