Spartanburg, SC - Polly Day Judy passed peacefully and courageously into Heaven following an extensive illness on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 surrounded by her family.
Polly was born in Greenville, NC on August 9, 1930 and was the eldest daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Rosalie Powell Day.
After graduating from The Fassifern School, Hendersonville, NC, a noted preparatory school for girls, and Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, she married Oren Raysor Judy of Spartanburg, SC on August 29, 1952, and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Polly enjoyed a life filled with an appreciation of arts and gardening in addition to their extensive travels. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, SC, The Piedmont Club, Spartanburg, SC, and formally Country Club of Spartanburg.
Polly is survived by her daughter, Melinda Judy Martin, and husband, Edward, of Johnson City, TN, and sons, Oren Randolph “Randy” Judy, and wife Kim of Greer, SC, and John Thomas Judy, and wife Glynnis of Greenville, SC, and by their grandchildren David A. Martin (Krista) of Monroe, Georgia; John E. Martin (Nicole) of Johnson City, TN, Carrie E. Martin of Johnson City, TN, William R. Judy (Casey) of Greenville, SC, Benjamin R. Judy of Spartanburg, SC, John J. and Samuel M. Judy of Greenville, SC, and Jamison Ann White of Greer, SC. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Sarah Nicole, Reagan Mackenzie, and Dean Edward Martin.
In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her sister, Joyce Sundling of Athens, GA, and brothers Charles Thomas Day, Jr., (Judy) Hendersonville, NC, and Alton Franklin Day (Linda) Asheville, NC, and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the home after 4:00PM, today, Friday September 20, 2013.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg conducted by Reverend Dr. William L. Arthur and Reverend Joanne Hull, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Polly will be interred at First Presbyterian Church’s Columbarium upon its completion.
