Berta "Betty" Gearhart

January 21, 1931 — December 16, 2013

Spartanburg, SC- Berta Gearhart, 82, wife of 48 years to the late D. Duke Gearhart, Chief Master Sergeant, USAF (Retired), entered into eternal rest on the morning of Monday, December 16, 2013. Betty was born January 21, 1931 in Oberweikertshofen, Germany, and later became a very proud Naturalized Citizen of the USA in 1956. She was a current resident of Eden Terrace, and formerly of Goose Creek, SC. Prior to her relocation to Spartanburg, Betty was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Royal “Z” Bowling League and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Betty is survived by her son, Michael A. Gearhart (Tamara) of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Carol A. Stewart of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Kyle and Rebecca Gearhart of Spartanburg, SC, and Ashlie Rossi of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving in Germany are two sisters, Pepi Kipka (Erick) and Syglinde Wagoner; three nieces, Gabrielle, Regina, and Brigette; and one nephew, Gerhard; and their children. The family wishes to thank the staff at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg and Regency Hospice for their tender, loving care provided to their beloved mother, oma, and friend. The relatives and friends of Betty Gearhart are invited to attend a visitation with the family at Carolina Memorial Gardens Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, December 20th. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Carolina Memorial Gardens. In memory of Betty Gearhart, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Berkeley Seniors, Inc., 103 Gulledge Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461; or Regency Hospice, 880 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Suite 1A, Greenville, SC 29607.
