Spartanburg, SC: Alden Frederick Hutchins, 53, husband of Rene Lipe Hutchins, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Spartanburg, SC.
Alden was born in Fort Dix, NJ to the late Lt. Col. Hartley F. and Mary Agnes Rateau Hutchins. He grew up as the fourth of five children in a military family. Alden graduated from the University of Delaware and later earned his MBA from Southern Wesleyan University. He started his working career as a Delaware State Trooper. After years as a state trooper, Alden moved to Spartanburg with his young family, where he worked for Leigh Fibers for many years before following his entrepreneurial spirit and starting several businesses. His most successful venture was the creation of Victory Technical Services, a surveillance, access control, and security system company based in Spartanburg and with offices in Peachtree City, GA and Columbia, SC.
He recently achieved his lifelong goal of becoming a pilot and was a member of the Spartanburg Pilots Association. Al was a spiritual man who regularly attended 721 Ministries meetings and was an active member of All Saints Church.
Alden enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his intent in each encounter was to make everyone laugh. Alden was quick-witted, goofy, generous, and concerned about this world, however, his true objective was living his life in honor of the Lord. He enjoyed the outdoors, do-it-yourself projects, and spending time with his dogs.
In addition to his wife, Al is survived by his daughter Meredith Leigh Hutchins of Charleston, SC, his son Matson Munro Hutchins of Spartanburg, SC and his siblings; Hartley F. Hutchins Jr., Richard Hutchins, Robert Hutchins, and Leslie Hutchins Doyle.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of "Hutch's" life on Saturday, December 28th, 3:00pm, at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In remembrance of Al, memorials may be made to All Saints Church, 401 E. Kennedy Street, Suite B7, Spartanburg, SC 29302; 721 Ministries, 4 Seminole Drive, Greenville, SC 29605; or The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.
