James Carlisle Robertson

December 3, 1949 — March 28, 2014

Spartanburg, SC- James C. Robertson, husband of Linda Steadman Robertson, passed away as a result of a sudden and unexpected heart attack on Friday, March 28, 2014. Jim was born December 3, 1949 and was the son of the late Sara and Carlisle Robertson. Jim Robertson earned the nickname “Big Kid” at an early age, but the nickname became a fitting mantra throughout his life, as he loved all things fun. As a young man, Jim enjoyed football and baseball. Jim attended USC and played baseball for the Gamecocks, cultivating a life-long love of all things garnet and black. Later in life, he was an avid golfer and skier. Jim, known by some as Jimmy, loved to play a good joke on others, but few things brought Jim as much joy as teaching someone a new sport or hobby or helping them to improve an existing one. Over the course of his life, he introduced new sports to countless people, ranging from dirt bike riding to driving The Dragon. His family always benefitted from his compassion. Jim was a devoted, loving husband and father who was a solid voice of reason in a home full of women. In more recent years, Jim added the hobby of buying, improving, showing, and driving Crossfire cars. Jim Robertson was a wonderful husband, loving father, amazing grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be missed by many. In addition to his wife of 41 years, Jim is survived by three daughters, Jaime Robertson of Spartanburg, Lindsey (Ashley) Cannon of Lexington, and Anna Robertson of Spartanburg; two grandsons, Jackson Lee Cannon and Hudson Cannon; sister, Judy (Mike) Tyler of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Tom (Gayle) Robertson of Florence, SC; niece, Laura Tyler of Mt. Pleasant; nephew, Tripp Tyler of Mt. Pleasant; and many close friends. Jim was predeceased by his sister, Lila Jo Robertson. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 1st, 4:00pm at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In remembrance of Jim, memorials may be made to HALTER, P O Box 1403, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
