William Hartley "Bill" Sperry

Spartanburg, SC- Bill Sperry, 86, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014.Bill was born September 9, 1927 in Buffalo, NY. He and his mother, Ida Roth Sperry, moved to Gettysburg, PA in 1931. Bill was educated at Gettysburg High School, Gettysburg College, and Duke University. He was called to educate and spent 39 years as an educator, coach, counselor, and advisor at The Governor’s Academy (GDA) in Byfield, MA. After retiring in 1993, he and his wife, Marty, moved to Florida and enjoyed many years of golf and sun. Marty passed away in 2011 and Bill moved to Spartanburg, SC to be closer to family.He is survived by his son, Steve Sperry and his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Ann S. Vadja and her husband, Peter; and his two grandchildren, Jack and Drew Vajda.A memorial service for Bill will be held in July at The Governor’s Academy Chapel in Byfield, MA. The date will be announced in early June.Bill will be buried beside Marty and her family in the Exeter Cemetery in New Hampshire.
