Marion Wolff Craven

Spartanburg, SC- Marion W. Craven, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 after a long and valiant battle with numerous serious health conditions.A grand lady of strength and grace, known to all simply as “Nanu”, she made all who met her feel included and important. She focused her energies on her family and friends, determined to be a vibrant part of our lives every day of hers. Born April 3, 1931 in Piedmont, SC, she was the daughter of the late Morris A., MD, and Onnie H., RN, Wolff. Marion was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended Winthrop College, later marrying the late James C. Craven and then moving to Spartanburg, SC to rear her four sons. Marion was a founding member and first President of the Merry Tillers Garden Club in Hillbrook Forest. She was retired from the Spartanburg County Library and was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.Nanu is survived by her four sons, James C. Craven, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, Richard M. Craven of York, SC, Scott Craven and his wife, Trudy, of Spartanburg, SC, and William M. Craven of Cuero, TX. She was blessed by and rejoiced in her five grandsons, William James Craven of Myrtle Beach, SC, Matthew Craven of Charleston, SC, Richard Craven of Spartanburg, SC, Niles and Grant Craven, both of Seneca, SC. She is also survived by her cousins, Sandra Boggs of Fredericksburg, VA and Kenneth Suggs of Columbia, SC. She will be sorely missed by all of us.A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 7th, 11:00am, at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, officiated by the Reverend Joseph K. Smith, Vicar.The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In remembrance of Nanu, memorials may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
