Roebuck, SC- James Alvin “Jimmy” Calvert, 72, husband of Linda Hines Calvert, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Jimmy was a native of Spartanburg, born October 10, 1941 to the late James Leroy and Katey Lowman Calvert. He attended Spartanburg High School and honorably served his country in the US Navy. Jimmy served in the Navy for 11 years and was in active duty during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a long time member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, USS Little Rock Association, Disabled Veterans of America, and the Loyal Order of Moose. Jimmy was the owner and operator of United Salon Services and Discount Pool Warehouse.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Rick Lipford (Susan) of Fayetteville, NC, and Randy Calvert of Spartanburg, SC; a daughter, Denise Stone (Danny) of Dominican Republic; three step children, Jimmy White, Joe White, and Sharon Spake, all of Chesnee, SC; a sister, Diane C. Rothe of Palm Springs, CA; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and special friends, Georgia and Phil Connell and Cleo and J.R. Neese.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 19th, 1:30-3:30pm at Dunbar Funeral Home.
A graveside service with military honors will follow the visitation in Heritage Memorial Gardens.
