Spartanburg, SC- Sara E. Morgan, 96, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born on November 24, 1917 in Spartanburg County, Sara grew up on a farm across the road from Nazareth Presbyterian Church where many of her family are buried. She was the daughter of the late Perry Andrew Edge and Mattie Lou Leonard Edge. Predeceasing her are five brothers and sisters, Evelyn Robinson, Doris Mercer, Wilton Edge, John Edge, and Harold Edge.
Sara was married on December 25, 1937 to Paul Hampton Morgan who passed away in 1998. She is survived by two loving sons, Donald Paul Morgan (Kathy) of Pauline, SC, and Perry Wade Morgan (Eilene) of Tryon, NC.
“Mema,” as Sara was called, is also survived by three grandchildren, Teresa Morgan Hosking of Rutherfordton, NC, Donald P. Morgan, Jr., of High Point, NC, and David W. Morgan of Portland, Oregon. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Robert J. Hosking, III, Wade A. Morgan, J. Presley Morgan, and Nicholas K. Morgan.
Mrs. Morgan earned an associate’s degree from Cecil’s Business College. She worked for many years and retired from Smith Wholesale Drugs as a receptionist.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church Spartanburg where she was a member of the Lydia Class and the Young at Heart. She also enjoyed her years in the Eastern Star.
The family offers special thanks for the exceptional care provided by the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home and Eden Terrace Assisted Living where she lived for the last four years.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 27th, 3:00-4:00pm at Dunbar Funeral Home.
A graveside service will follow at 4:30pm in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, officiated by Reverend Sal Barone and Reverend Bob Morgan.
