Moore, SC- Marie B. Rooks, 93, wife of the late Eugene Fuller Rooks, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
Born December 25, 1920 in McDonough, GA, she was a daughter of the late Carl Jefferson and Minnie Lou Lester Berry. Marie attended Bethany Baptist Church growing up and was saved and baptized there at 14 years old. After Marie and Eugene married in 1944, they attended the First Baptist Church in Cordele, GA, where she was active in the WMU and assisted with the GA program and Sunday School class. After Mr. Rooks passed, Marie started attending Wieuca Road Baptist Church where she attended Sunday School and sang with the 39ers group.
Marie is survived by her daughter Patricia “Pat” Rooks Dixon (Rodney); grandchildren, Meredith Dixon Randazzo (Robert), Kathryn Dixon Foessel (Alan), Dana Strickland (Valerie), Greg Strickland (Kiona), and Elizabeth Strickland Rozich (Jacob); two great grandchildren, Jonas Randazzo and Gabriela Foessel; and former son in-law, Steve Strickland.
In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Diane Rooks Strickland; and five brothers and sisters, Talmadge Berry, Mamie Lou Berry Stapleton, Pebble Berry Strawn, Lamar Berry, and Cleo Berry.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Alice Andreassen and Elaine Wood in the care of Marie.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 1st, 11:00am at Bethany Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation, 101 E Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or Bethany Baptist Church cemetery fund, 4 North Bethany Road, McDonough, GA 30252; or to the charity of one’s choice.
