Charles Wesley Holcombe

Spartanburg, SC- Charles Wesley Holcombe, 79, husband of Betty Pierce Holcombe, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Spartanburg County, Charles was a son of the late Robert Ernest and Viola White Holcombe. He was a graduate of Pauline High School, class of 1953. Charles retired from Ingles Markets as Produce Merchandiser, in South and North Carolina, and Georgia, with 18 years of service and previously worked with Big Star for 18 years. A fine Christian, Charles was an active member of the Glendale Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school Director and Teacher, was a past member of the Maintenance, Welfare, Visitation, Homecoming, and Pastor’s Search Committee, as well as various other committees. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by a son, Robert E. “Bobby” Holcombe and his wife, Marlene Pilgrim Holcombe; two grandsons, C.J and Chris Holcombe; God children, Angel H. Rochester (Brady) and Aaron T. Hodge (Windy); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, J.C and Clifford Holcombe; and two sisters, Margaret Holcombe and Roberta Holcombe Pittman. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 16th, 6:00-8:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17th, 11:00AM at Glendale Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Daniel Blackwell and Reverend James Fanning. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In remembrance of Charles, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, South Carolina Chapter, 901 S. Pine St, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the Glendale Baptist Church Bus Fund, P O Box 268, Glendale, SC 29346.
