Moore, SC- Scott Keever, 54, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 1, 1959, Scott was a son of George D. Keever and the late Billie Samuels Keever. He was a graduate of Berea High School, earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Furman University, and a Master’s degree in Administration from Converse College. Scott began his career in Clinton, SC where he served as both a middle school band director and assistant director to the high school band. He spent the majority of his teaching career in Spartanburg District 6 where he served at Gable Middle School, Dorman High School, and Fairforest Middle School in numerous capacities, including middle school band director, high school percussion director, and assistant principal. During his time at Gable he established one of the first steel drum bands in the state of South Carolina and continued his musical legacy at Fairforest later in his career. Scott retired from Spartanburg School District 6 after 26 years of service. He was a member of Lyman First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, as well as a choir member.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Belva Hancock Keever; children, Jonathan and Hannah Keever of Duncan, SC, Ashley and Michael Stansell of Roebuck, SC, and Jeffrey Keever of Moore, SC; brothers and sisters, Carroll and Sandra Perry of Gainesville, GA, and Don and Cheryl Keever of Hendersonville, NC.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 22nd, 1:00-3:00PM in the fellowship hall of Lyman First Baptist Church, 80 Groce Road, Lyman, SC.
The funeral service will follow the visitation in the sanctuary at 3:30PM, officiated by Reverend Scott Stancil and Reverend Glenn Rusher.
Interment will be in Wood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 101 E Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the Scott Samuel Keever Memorial Fund, c/o Arcadia Elementary School, 375 Spring Street, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Money donated to this fund will be used to provide instruments for beginning band students.
