Roebuck, SC- Mary G. Skinner, 81, wife of the late Reverend E. Wilkes Skinner, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at her home.
Born July 7, 1933 in Pauline, SC, Mary was a daughter of the late Junius West and Irene O’Shields Gwinn. Mary and her husband, Wilkes, pastored six churches in the upstate area for 45 years. She loved music and sang at many of the churches. Mary was a pianist with a vast knowledge of Gospel music and had a God given talent of playing by ear.
Mary is survived by her son, E. Steve Skinner (Cynthia) of Woodruff, SC; granddaughter, Ava Liana Skinner; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by a son, James Stanley Skinner; a daughter, Mary Kathryn Skinner; six brothers, Woodrow, Chris, Tanner, Boyd, Jake, and Nesbitt Gwinn; and four sisters, Nellie Peeler, Rosie Peeler, Margie Hayes, and Beck Graham.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 30th, 6:00-8:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 31st, 2:00PM in the Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery, 4240 Walnut Grove Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376.
