John Robert Roddy

Cross Hill, SC- John Robert Roddy, 83, husband of Nell Jolley Roddy, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 1, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, John was the son of the late Lynn A. and Eva McIntyre Roddy. He honorably served his country in the US Army and graduated from Wofford College, majoring in accounting. John retired as secretary-treasurer for Jackson Mills after 40 years of service. He was presently employed with Sandy Springs Electrical in Laurens, SC for more than 15 years. John and Nell attended Soule Chapel United Methodist Church in Cross Hill, SC. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Victoria R. Morrison of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Robert B. Morrison of Spartanburg, SC and Mary Grace Mitchell and her husband, Joshua, of Greenville, SC; great grandchild, Eva Grace Mitchell; a sister, Margaret McEntyre of Green Creek, NC; and a niece, Eva Callahan of Green Creek, NC. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 7th, 10:00AM at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Rd, Spartanburg SC 29301, officiated by Reverend Chris Barrett and Reverend Dr. William Quarles. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary. In remembrance of John, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
