Spartanburg, SC- Mr. James Richard “Dickie” Corbin, Sr., loving husband of Gayle Culver Anderson Corbin, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at home after a brief illness.
Born September 24, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC, Dickie was a son of the late Luther Roy “Dick” Corbin and Etta Janelle Edwards. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of 1954, attended Wofford College, Spartanburg Methodist College, and was a graduate of Rutledge Business College. He served in the US Navy and retired from Kohler Company after 41 years. Mr. Corbin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and of the Paul Morris Sunday school class.
Dickie was a loving husband, father, brother, and granddaddy. He loved baseball and football, having played both sports in high school. After retirement, his time was spent working in his garden growing delicious tomatoes, corn, and green beans which he lovingly shared with friends and family. He was a humble man who enjoyed being with others, especially his “Beacon Group” on Wednesdays.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, James R. Corbin, Jr. and Timothy Scott Corbin (Nikkie); grandchildren, Wesley Corbin (Stephanie), Caroline, Callie, Matthew, Gabrielle, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Chloe, all of Spartanburg; great grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Corbin of Spartanburg; step daughters, Beverly Stribling (Dr. Michael Dean) and Lisa Anderson (John Featherston), both of Spartanburg; step grandchildren, Sarah West (Tyler) and Mary Stribling, both of Columbia, Caroline Stribling of Charleston, and Rachel Stribling of Spartanburg; sister, Betty League (Ed); and brother, Harry Corbin, both of Spartanburg.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Catherine Hames (Frank) and Sarah Williams; and brothers, John Corbin (Blanche) and Mason Corbin.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 25th, 3:00PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Neal Woods and Reverend A. Mickey Fisher.
The family will receive friends following the service.
