John Carl Greene

Moore, SC- John C. Greene, 60, husband of the late Doreene Simpson Greene, died Monday, February 16, 2015. Born November 26, 1954 in Spartanburg, SC, John was the son of Nancy Jane Greene and the late Bobby H. Greene. He was a graduate of Great Valley Senior High School in Malvern, PA, and attended USC Upstate. John honorably served his country in the US Army as a calibrator in Korea and Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. After his service, Greene settled in Roebuck, eventually establishing a small business in auto repair and restoration. He helped local racers, including stock car legends James Harvey Hylton and Joe Frasson. He enjoyed karting and restoring antique motor bikes. He was a naturally gifted mechanic who could fix literally anything. John was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9539. In addition to his mother, John is survived by a daughter, Sarah Austin Greene of Kalispell, MT; sisters, Susan Plemmons, Emily Pettit, and Beth Finney; a brother, Bill Greene of Arlington, VA; brother in-law, Christopher Simpson; sisters in-law, Deborah Dietrich, Rebecca Conner, and Elizabeth Atkinson; and mother in-law, Yvonne Mumford Simpson. A memorial service with military honors will be held Friday, February 20th, 12:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
