Allen David Griffin

Duncan, SC – Allen D. Griffin, 78, husband of Mary Jean McKinney Griffin, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born June 18, 1936 in Cleveland, OH, Allen was a son of the late Frank O. and Ruth Feathers Griffin. He attended Wilmington College and Kent State University where he earned his Master’s in Education. Allen taught for 30 years at Maple Heights city schools in Ohio. In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by his sons, David A. Griffin of Akron, OH, Frank Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA, and Michael Ray of Greenville, SC; his daughters, Melodie Basey of Summerfield, NC, Michelle Seagraves of Spartanburg, SC, JoAnne Marks of Virginia Beach, VA, Helen Grant of Spartanburg, SC, and Renee Whittacker of Lancaster, SC; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Norman Griffin of Flint, MI; and a sister, Margie Strong of Rome, PA. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12th, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Jim Jackson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
