Spartanburg, SC- Peter Smellie, 87, passed away at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home on April 20,2015.
Peter was born January 23,1928 in Isla de Pinos, Cuba. He immigrated to the United States in 1945, and was a graduate of Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. He was well known in the decorating community of Spartanburg, as a longtime employee of Sherwin-Williams Company, and partner in Hillcrest Decorating Center, This is Decorating, and Spray USA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Betty Annette Smellie; his parents, Peter Smellie and Margaret Matthewson Smellie; and a brother, William Smellie.
He is survived by a daughter, Meg Horne (Landon) of Spartanburg; 4 grandchildren, David Gilliam (Ivy) of Lyman, an Kylie, Jack, and Andrew Horne of Spartanburg; 2 great-grandchildren, Alex Gilliam and Caleb Cervantes; and his longtime fiancée and very best friend, Evelyn Shelnut.
Visitation will be at Southside Baptist Church, 12:30 - 1:45pm on Saturday, April 25th, with a memorial service to follow in the sanctuary at 2pm.
