Elmer Mitchell Harvey

Pacolet, SC- Elmer Mitchell Harvey, 87, husband of the late Mary G. Harvey, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Born April 8, 1928 in Rock Hill, SC, Elmer was a son of the late James Robert and Eva Marie Guy Harvey. He honorably served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin during WWII. Elmer was a general contractor and worked for Chapman Concrete and Mitch & Doug Harvey Construction. He was also an ordained Baptist minister. Elmer was a past deacon of New Beginnings Baptist Church in Waterloo, SC and Bethesda Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. He is survived by his sons, Doug Harvey of Pacolet, SC and Keith Harvey of Spring City, TN; grandchildren, Joshua, Dustin, Tyler, Dalton, Eric, Justin, and Zachery Harvey, Jacob Hodge, Shane Cothran, Katie Wright, and Megan Santora; thirty one great grandchildren; a brother, J. R. “Bob” Harvey, Jr; and a sister, Gladys King of San Diego, CA. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Elmer was predeceased by a son, Gary M. Harvey; two brothers, Cleveland L. J. Harvey and Eugene Harvey; and a sister, Ruby Smith. The family will receive friends Friday, May 1st, 6:00-8:00PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A private family committal will be held by a later date.
