Spartanburg, SC- Richard Victor Zollinger, 52, husband of Janene Workman Zollinger, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 6, 1962 in Spartanburg, Richard was a son of the late Otto and Thildy Buob Zollinger. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Georgia Institute of Technology, class of 1985, with a degree in electrical engineering. Richard was president of Otto Zollinger, Inc. and had received many patents. He attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was a member of the Spartan West Rotary Club for many years.
Richard always put his family first and will be remembered for being the most kindhearted and patient individual that anyone could ever know. He always put everyone else’s needs before his own. Richard had a tremendous love for God. He was devoted to his wife and children and enjoyed spending quality time with them doing many adventurous activities.
In addition to his wife of 27 years, Richard is survived by his son, Harrison Zollinger; twin daughters, Victoria and Isabella Zollinger; a brother, Marcus Zollinger and his wife, Jane Brockman Zollinger; a sister, Helen Elston and boyfriend, Terry Smith; sister, Rita Zollinger; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his best buddy and canine companion, Jackson; and his cats, Sweet Pea and Ollie.
During this time of grief, the family is requesting their privacy.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held Friday, May 8th, 2:00PM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean St, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
A reception will follow in the parish center.
