Spartanburg, SC- William “Bill” Guffey, 84, died, or as he would say “got the big move up to live with the Lord” on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
Mr. Guffey was born on October 17, 1930 to the late William and Pauline Leveredge Guffey. He started his career in the late forties as a one room school teacher in Appalachia Kentucky, driving his jeep up creek beds to reach children who had never seen an American Flag or an orange. Mr. Guffey was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a retired plant manager and training director for Mead Containers, with over 40 years of service. Mr. Guffey was also a Dale Carnegie instructor, which was an outlet for his outgoing personality. He enjoyed music and singing his version of popular songs. Mr. Guffey had a great outlook on life and enjoyed people and good times. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, serving for many years as a greeter with his wife. Mr. Guffey became a homebound member to care for his wife for the last ten years of her life.
Those left to cherish fond memories of Mr. Guffey are his two daughters, Vickie Myers and her husband, Tom, and Sandra Harlow and her husband, Tom, all of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Christopher Miller (Debra), Carrie Thomas (Buck), Michelle Stegall (Rand), Thomas William Myers, and Kristi Nicole Harlow; one great step-grandson, Daniel Golden; and one great grandson, Harper Stegall; and two sisters, Glee Abbott and Sheila Hardison, both of Kentucky.

The family would like to extend thanks to Unit 1 of Magnolia Manor Spartanburg, and a special thanks to Kandra Lawson, one of his nurses, who took her time to care for Mr. Guffey and also made special times fun for him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23rd, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Dale Sutton.
The family will receive friends following the service.
