Josephine Britt Bridgers

Greenville, SC - Josephine Sherrod Britt Bridgers, widow of Wilbur Y. Bridgers, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. at her home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville, SC. Burial will follow in the Churchyard. A native of Enfield, NC, Josephine was born February 17, 1926 to the late Joseph Burke Britt and Mary Sherrod Britt. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and taught school in North Carolina and Virginia. Mrs. Bridgers moved to Greenville, SC in 1961 with her husband and three children. She was a member of Christ Church, served on the board of the women of the church, was an active member of the Altar Guild and member of St. Monica’s – St. Teresa’s Guild. A member of the Wildwood Garden Club for many years, she enjoyed friends, bridge and painting. Mrs. Bridgers is survived by her daughter, Anne Bryan Hanson and husband, Phillip, of Charlotte, NC; son, Joseph Britt Bridgers of Greenville, SC; daughter, Mary Sherrod Abrahamson and husband, Kent, of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Lyle Bridgers of Greenville, SC; Sherrod Law and husband, Jeremy, of Columbia, SC; Ellis Bridgers and husband, David Sykes, of Greenville, SC; James Britt Abrahamson and John Matthew Abrahamson of California. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Monica’s – St. Teresa’s Guild, Christ Church, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or to the charity of one’s choice.
