Herbert W. Neely

Herbert W. Neely Laurens- Herbert Willingham Neely, 87, husband of the late Jacqulyn S. Neely, died Thursday, July 09, 2015 at the Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, Laurens, SC. Herbert was born in Spartanburg, a son of the late Kreswell E. and Mamie Lawton Neely. He was a graduate of Wofford College and received his M.Div. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Herbert served as Pastor at Sweetwater Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC and was Pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Greer, SC when he was called to the mission field. He and his wife were commissioned as Southern Baptist Missionaries in 1960, serving 16 years in Zimbabwe and 17 Years in the Cayman Islands. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, attending Laurens First Baptist Church in his final years. Herbert is survived by three sons, Wesley W. Neely (Cheryl) of Dallas, TX, Nigel E. Neely (Pam) of Roebuck, Herbert W. Neely Jr. (Chris) of Spartanburg; two daughters, Bess N. Larkins (Rick) of Inman and Margaret-Ann Swift (Ed) of Chapel Hill, NC. He was also blessed with twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens will be private.
