Sophia Langdon Plylar

November 11, 1922 — September 7, 2015

Spartanburg, SC – Sophia Langdon Plylar, 92, wife of the late Edison S. Plylar, died Monday, September 7, 2015. Born November 11, 1922, in Spokane, Washington, Sophia moved to Alabama after marrying her Air Force sweetheart Edison. Later, Sophia and Edison moved to Spartanburg to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Sophia was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary H. Langdon. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Sophia loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She loved hosting family gatherings at her home until recent years. The Lord gave her good health and strength for the vast majority of life. She used her health and strength in blessing the lives of those with whom she came in contact. She loved working with her son at PIMA Real Estate for over 20 years where she was known as the front desk “PIMA Lady”. She enjoyed interacting with hundreds of customers and friends. Sophia dearly loved animals and her faithful cat Shadow was always lounging on her desk. Her best friend (four legged) in her later years was her little dog Nipper who’s pictures graced many advertising campaigns for the company. Sophia is survived by her son, Wayne Plylar and his wife, Virginia, granddaughter, Sheryl Moriarty and her husband, Jason, and three great grandchildren; grandchild, Kevin Plylar and his wife, Luisa, and two great grandchildren; also by daughter in-law, Joan Plylar, and grandchild, Phillip Plylar and his wife, Tonya; and grandchild, Lorie Hodges, and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Ron Plylar; four sisters; and one brother, all of Spokane, Washington. The family will receive friends Friday, September 11th, 11:00-12:00noon, at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel, officiated by Ernie Thigpen. In remembrance of Sophia, memorials may be made to the Southeastern Children’s Home of Duncan, P O Box 339, Duncan, SC 29334 or to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
