Joyce Laeing Briggs

Joyce Lawing Briggs Spartanburg – Joyce Lawing Briggs, wife of the late Allen Henry Briggs, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Joyce was born in Spartanburg to the late Frank Garner and Belle Melton Lawing. She was a graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, and served as director of nursing at the Charles Lea Center, a nursing instructor at Spartanburg Methodist College and a nursing supervisor at White Oak Estates. She was a charter member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Joyce is survived by her children, Donna B. Workman and Guy Henry Workman of Spartanburg; and David Allen Briggs and Nancy Cobb Briggs of Spartanburg. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Karen B. Updyke and Reid Updyke of Los Angeles, CA, Abigail Cobb Briggs of Greer, Cameron Allen Briggs and David Ryan Briggs, both of Charleston, SC, Christopher Guy Workman of Spartanburg and Katherine Ann Workman and William C. Smith of Greer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church officiated by the Reverend Jim Trimble. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church; 400 Dupre Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307 The family is at their respective homes.
