Elizabeth Huntley Neuburger

February 18, 1923 — November 16, 2015

Elizabeth Huntley (“Lib”) Neuburger peacefully entered into Eternal Rest on November 16, 2015 at the Hospice Home of Spartanburg Regional after a short illness at the end of a long and joyous life of more than 92 years. Lib was born in Spartanburg on February 18, 1923 to W. O. and Helen Huntley. She was educated in the public schools of Spartanburg and then attended Columbia College and Converse College. In August, 1943 she married Lt. William U. Gunn, who had just completed training at Camp Croft prior to going to Europe for Normandy and the liberation of Paris. Bill Gunn died in 1958 and thereafter in November, 1960 Lib married Trev A. Neuburger of Spartanburg. Trev and Lib were happily married for 47 years until his death in 2007. Lib was a devoted wife and companion to Trev and tirelessly worked alongside him in his business endeavors. In their latter years, Lib and Trev especially enjoyed their home and boat at Edisto Beach and spent many happy days with friends at sea or on trips along the Intercoastal Waterway. After Trev’s death Lib resided at Summit Hills where she renewed old friendships and made many new ones. Her life remained full and happy until the last few months when her good health began to diminish. Lib is especially remembered for her good cheer and kind words for those she came in contact with in everyday life. She never, ever took herself too seriously and had time for anyone and everyone. She is survived by a son, William U. Gunn (Sarah) of Spartanburg, a daughter Harriette N. Reid (Marty) of Spartanburg, a sister, Dorothy Galloway of Lilburn, Ga., and a brother Stephen J. Huntley of Spartanburg. Additional survivors are six grandchildren, William U. Gunn III of Spartanburg, Cameron N. Gunn of Denver, Co., Elizabeth K. Burris (Will) of Scottsdale Az, Mary Margaret Gunn of Columbia, S. C., Parker A. Reid of New York, NY, and Evan Jennings Reid of Spartanburg and Boulder, Co. Lib was predeceased by a brother W. O. Huntley of Columbia and a sister Wilma H. Gilmore of Spartanburg. Graveside services will be at Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Rd, Moore, S.C. 29369 on Friday, November 20th at 11AM, conducted by Rev. Stephen Y. McGehee and Rev. Mary Lynne Peterson. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19th at 5:30PM at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William U. Gunn, 615 Weymouth Dr., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302. In lieu of flowers the Family suggests donations in Lib’s memory be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr. Spartanburg, S.C. 29303 or The Advent Foundation, 141 Advent St, Spartanburg, S.C.29302.
