Michael Henry Thompson

Spartanburg, SC- Michael Henry Thompson, 80, husband of Shelby Jean “Peggy” Solesbee Thompson, died Sunday, February 21, 2016. Born August 6, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC, Mike was a son of the late William W. and Lucille Moore Thompson. He was a graduate of Clemson University and honorably served his country in the US Army. Mike was the retired owner of J M Solesbee Construction Company and co-owner of Carolina Traditions. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church Spartanburg, volunteered for Mobile Meals, and was a past member of the Spartanburg County School Board for District 6. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his son, Michael T. “Tim” Thompson and his wife, Leigh Ann; daughters, Stacey Leigh Cabaniss and her husband, Teddy, and Angie Thompson; grandchildren, Lauren, Hannah, and Chase Cabaniss, Ian, Kathleen, and Ivy Thompson; a brother, Jack Thompson; and a sister, Nancy Olgesby. Mike was predeceased by a brother, Billy Thompson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 23rd, 1:30-2:45PM at First Baptist Church Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow in the sanctuary at 3:00PM, officiated by Reverend Dr. Don Wilton. A committal will be held after the service in Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Dr. Bob Pettit.
