Mary Sue Whitmire Peterson Powers

Spartanburg, SC- Mary Sue Powers, 94, passed away April 24th at White Oak Estates. Born on July 13, 1921 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Leonard A. and Margaret Jennie Cathcart Whitmire. She was the widow of Lloyd “Pete” Peterson and Francis Persse Powers. A devout Southern lady full of grace and love, she will be deeply missed by her daughter, Sandra Peterson Hodges (Andrew) of Roebuck; her son, Whit Peterson (Linda) of Pawleys Island SC; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mary Sue grew up in Greenville, SC, attended Greenville High School and Newberry College. Soon after marrying Pete Peterson in 1946, they returned to Spartanburg, where she was a long-time member of Park Hills Baptist Church and River Hills Baptist Church. Susie’s life was blessed with many lasting friendships, and she cherished each one of them. The family wishes to express particular gratitude to all of those who have shown her love and care over the last several years. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, April 27th, 1PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
