Spartanburg, SC- Stephen Jennings Huntley, 82, husband of Beverly Cohen Huntley, died Monday, June 6, 2016.
Born September 11, 1933 in Spartanburg, SC, Steve was the son of the late W.O. and Helen Jennings Huntley. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Wofford College, where he was a member of the basketball team. Steve enjoyed golfing with friends.
Steve enjoyed a forty year career in the retail industry, working for Efirds Department Store and the Belk Hudson Company. He was active in the Spartanburg business community for many years. Steve was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, usher, and was instrumental in establishing the church’s Stephen Ministry.
Known for his kindness and generosity, Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his children, Grace Huntley Coleman and her husband, John Nelson Coleman, of Spartanburg, SC, Stephen Jennings Huntley, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer Duncan Huntley, of Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Claire Jennings Coleman and Jack Carter Coleman of Spartanburg, SC, Beatrice Cohen Huntley and Alexander Jennings Fisher Huntley of Aiken, SC; and a sister, Dorothy H. Galloway of Snellville, GA.
He was predeceased by his brother, W. O. Huntley; and sisters, Elizabeth H. “Lib” Neuburger, Wilma H. Gilmore.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 9th, 4:30PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, officiated by The Reverend Dr. Thomas E. Evans.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Ben and Kathy Willard.
