Michael W Thompson

Spartanburg, SC- Michael W. “Mickey” Thompson passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 26, 1944, he was the son of the late E. Henry and Norma Phillips Thompson. Mickey attended Spartanburg City Schools, Spartanburg Junior College, and the University of South Carolina at Columbia. He spent the last thirty-five years in real estate as a commercial property manager. Mickey was employed with Pulliam Investment Company for 24 years. He opened Thompson Commercial Management, LLC, in 2008, which he continued to operate until his death. During his time at Pulliam Investment Company, Mickey served on the Board of Directors of the Upper State Apartment Association, and as its president in 1990. He also served on the board of the South Carolina Council for Multi-Family Housing. Mickey was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. Mickey was the husband of Dr. Anna Ballard of Spartanburg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy Thompson Beaver (Rick) and Granddaughter Sara Ellis Beaver all of James Island, SC; his son, William Patrick Thompson of Greenville and grandson Ian Thompson of Seneca; and stepdaughter, Ena Ballard Taylor and stepgrandson, Murray Preston Taylor of Madison, WI. Also surviving are two brothers, Gene Thompson (Kay) of Palm City, FL and Phil Thompson (Sandy) of Antioch, Il. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by all who loved him. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, July 2nd, 4:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, officiated by Reverend Joanne R. Hull and Reverend Dr. Thomas E. Evans. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parlor.
