Richard Alan Woppman, Sr.

Roebuck, SC- Mr. Richard Alan Woppman, Sr., 77, husband of the late Leslie Sue Woppman, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born February 22, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, Richard was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Hughes Woppman. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1965 with a BS in Chemistry and went on to retire as a chemical process engineer at Philips Fibers. Richard belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He achieved 3rd and 4th degree and was given an Honorary Life Membership due to being in good standing in the order for more than 30 years, receiving Knight of the month multiple times. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army, serving our country from 1958-1963 while stationed in Germany. Richard obtained E-5 and served with the 42nd Artillery Battalion as a forward observer. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and faithful choir member for 25 years. Richard is survived by his daughter, Kellie Ann Woppman Vega and her two children, Ryan and Erik, daughter, Christine Marie Woppman Baugh and her husband, Roy Timothy Baugh, and her children, Jason Derek Seas, Jr. and Ericka Marie Seas; his son, Richard Alan Woppman, Jr. and his wife, Christy Jones Woppman, and their daughter, Violet Sky Woppman. The family will receive friends Friday, July 15th, 6-8PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 16th, 11AM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, officiated by Reverend David R. Whitman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
