Harry McClure Burnett

March 8, 1932 — September 9, 2016

Harry McClure Burnett Charlotte, NC - Harry McClure Burnett, March 8, 1932-September 9, 2016, was born in Spartanburg County, SC, son of Harley J. Burnett and Venie McClure Burnett. Following an extended illness, he died at Southminster Retirement Community, Charlotte, NC. Harry grew up in the Cooley Springs community of Northern Spartanburg County with woods and fields to explore on his horse, Prince. He, and his devoted sister Ann, had a wonderful childhood surrounded by uncles, aunts and cousins in this rural setting. After graduation from Chesnee High School, Harry attended his beloved Clemson (at the time an all-male South Carolina military college), graduating in 1954, forever more to be a died-in-the-wool passionate Clemson Tiger football fan. He always said he wanted his casket to be lined with Tiger prints, and “Tiger-Rag” played as the postlude for his service. In 1962, Harry married Patricia Reeves of Cedartown, Georgia. In due time they became parents of one cherished daughter, Sara Elizabeth. His career was in sales, working with The Kohler Company in Atlanta, Kansas City, and finally in Charlotte where he was Southeast Regional Manager of Sales. After retirement, he began Harry Burnett Associates, a national recruiting firm for positions in the building industry. Although in younger years, Harry enjoyed golf, nothing was ever more important to him than his extended family, a family made even wider when in 2007 he and Tillie Tice formed a committed loving relationship, inclusive of her large family. He also sustained friends from every facet of his long life. He was an active member of Myers Park Baptist Church. He especially cherished friendships with classmates from his years as a member of the Class of 1954 at Clemson. Harry Burnett was predeceased by his parents, by his first wife, Patricia, and his much loved brother-in-law, Harry Haar. He is survived by his daughter Sara B. Hart, her husband Ladson and (the light of his life) their twin ten year old sons, Mills and Craton Hart; by his sister Ann Haar of Spartanburg; his companion, Tillie Tice; niece Mindy Haar Rendell (Brad), nephews Jay Haar (Suzanne), Cameron Haar, six great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September13th, at 11am at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 with the Reverends Joseph Aldrich, Gary Hudson, and Dr. Douglas Aldrich officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in Heaton Hall. Graveside burial will be 4:30pm, September 13th, at Arrowwood Baptist Church, Hwy 11, Chesnee, SC. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ladson Mills Hart, II; Harry Jay Haar, Cameron Pierce Haar, William Pierce Haar, Dennis Allen Nodine, Charles Edward Gray, J. Michael Kohler, Jr, and Ladson Frederick Hart. The family expresses its deepest gratitude for the wonderful healthcare providers at Southminster; to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region; to Dr. James Villier and Dr. James Boyd and his nurses.
