Margaret Cummins Toth

Margaret Cummins Toth, died September 18, 2016 at the age of 83 at Eden Terrace, Spartanburg, SC.  She was born in Kankakee, IL on July 28, 1933 and was the daughter of Robert Cummins and Luetta Zahn Cummins.   She is survived by Gerald, her husband of 48 years, brother Robert Cummins (Mary) of Fairbury, IL, sons from her first marriage, Michael Leman (Christa) of Vancouver, WA, Eric Leman (Barbara) of Columbus, OH, step-sons Glenn Toth (Karen) of Reno, NV, Mark Toth, Missoula, MT, and grandchildren Elizabeth Leman, Benjamin Leman, Erica Lucas (Robbie)  Andrew Leman (Megan), great granddaughter Aubrey Lucas, step-granddaughters Ananda Vestal (Joey) and Leela O’Brien. Margaret spent her formative years in Fairbury, IL where her parents were teachers in the Fairbury schools.  Margaret graduated from Fairbury High School in 1951 and attended Illinois Wesleyan University.   She married Jerry in 1968, and they lived in several mid-western cities as a result of his job transfers.  They moved to Spartanburg from Dallas in early 1996, and she became active in the Spartanburg Festival Chorus, the choir at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, played the bells in the Carillion Bell Tower after Sunday services, and also volunteered in several capacities.  Starting in 1996 she and Jerry enjoyed many trips in their RV traveling extensively through-out the US and Canada.  In 2001 she learned to weave at the John C. Campbell Folk School, and for the next 13 years spent  many happy hours weaving colorful place mats, dish towels and scarves on  her floor loom.   A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 7 at 2:00 PM officiated by The Rev. J. Edward Morris, The Rev. Dr. Clay Turner, and The Reverend Stephen Y. McGehee at The Episcopal Church of the Advent.    Interment will follow the service in the Bell Tower Columbarium .   The family will greet friends in the Parish Community Life Center following interment.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Advent for Outreach Ministries, 141 Advent St, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
