Edward Reid Caldwell

Edward Reid Caldwell Spartanburg - Edward Reid Caldwell of 3280 Reidville Road, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on November 17, 2016. A native of Spartanburg County, Mr. Caldwell was born December 12, 1935 to the late James Reid and Estelle Bragg Caldwell and the husband of Patricia Guyton Caldwell. He graduated Fairforest High and the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg with a BS in Business Administration. Reid completed 20 years in the US Navy obtaining the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was stationed with Helicopter Squadrons 3, 6 and 7, served as Navy Recruiting Officer for the northern Minnesota area, and was named Navy Recruiter of the Year in 1968. From there, Chief Caldwell taught aviation electronics at the US Naval Training Center in Jacksonville, Fla. From 1975-2005, Reid owned and operated Caldwell and Son, Inc. A business that he enjoyed and spent many hours in growing the customer base. His customers were treated fairly and given quality services. His business philosophy being as simple as the Golden Rule. Reid was a charter member of Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church. His church family of the past few years has been Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member of the Arcadia Masonic Lodge, Arcadia, SC. Reid was a devoted husband for 57 years to his wife, Pat. He was the loving father of: son Drew (Vicky) Caldwell of Lexington, SC., daughter, Reida Landrum (Jamie) of Simpsonville, SC. Four beautiful granddaughters, whom he loved with all his heart, are: Haley Caroline Caldwell and Hannah Reid Caldwell of Lexington, SC.; Laila Carolann Landrum and Jamie-Lee Landrum of Simpsonville, SC.  Each granddaughter adored their "Poppy". Additional family are sister, Emily Caldwell Sawyer, sister,  niece, Marie Sawyer Earnhardt of Spartanburg, SC. and brother-in-law  H.B. Guyton (Patsy) of Inman, SC  His loving pets, Molly and Dakota. The Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Dunbar Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Reverend Jim Oliver, Reverend Joe Burnett, and Reverend Richard Landrum. Serving as pallbearers are: Gary Lawhorne, Fred Thomas, Carroll Caldwell, Earl Bulman, Don Johnson, Ernest Love, Frank Jackson and Dean Burger. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery following the service with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 725 Old Georgia Road, Moore, SC 29369, r Spartanburg Humane Society. The family is at the home.
