Bakersfield, CA- Betty Jean Gilfillan, 82, formerly Roebuck, SC, went home to rest in the arms of the Almighty on November 29th, 2016. She was surrounded with loving family singing hymns as she entered into His presence. She will be forever remembered for her quick wit, her love for anyone she met, and her holy boldness. Betty was born in Gaffney, SC to the late Lloyd and Evelyn White on July 25th, 1934. She married the love of her life, Harold Fletcher Gilfillan, on March 5th, 1955, and they shared 45 happy years together before Harold’s death in 2000. Their legacy of love continues through their four children and their spouses: Harold Gilfillan Jr. (Linda), Freddy Gilfillan (Amanda), Donnie Gilfillan (Lisa), and Gina Coleman (Buttons). She will be forever adored by her grandchildren: Cory Gilfillan (Jenee), Jennifer Gilfillan, Brandon Coleman (Erin), Nathan Coleman (Kelsey), Madison Gilfillan, Kirby Gilfillan, Alayna Condon (Sean), Kylar Gilfillan, and Alexis Gilfillan. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; her brother, Junie L. White (Irene); and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Don White (Sibble) and her sister Shirley Brown. Betty’s friends are too numerous to count. She spent the last eleven years of her life in Bakersfield, CA living with her daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Buttons. She passionately loved serving at the Green Acres Senior Center and attending the Bridge Bible Church. She graduated life with her own kind of PhD; Peace, Happiness, and Direction. Please join us in celebrating her life with a service at the Solid Rock Worship Center, 1326 Union St., Spartanburg, SC. Visitation will be held Friday, December 9th, 1:30-2PM with a service following at 2PM. The family is at the home of Harold Gilfillan. Since we are hosting a celebration of life, please wear something colorful (Betty’s favorite was purple). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Solid Rock Worship Center. “Death is a void nothing can fill, but love is memories that no one can steal.”
