Walnut Grove, SC- Douglas Edward Layton, 77, husband of Ginny Jones Layton, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 3, 2017. Born January 17, 1940 in Walnut Grove, SC, he was a son of the late James Luther Layton, Sr. and Ruth Gwinn Layton. Doug honorably served his country in the US Army and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after many years of service. He was a talented taxidermist and an avid farmer. In addition to the great care he showed his farm and animals, his hard working nature and support of his family was demonstrated throughout his life with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. Doug was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his son, Monty Douglas Layton (Teresa); two daughters, Lori Marie Layton Copeland (Robbie) and Michelle Ruth Layton Easler (Leon); nine grandchildren, Ethan (Ashton), Austin, McKenzie Rae (Ivan), Maegan, Jordan, Caden (Jana), Ginny, Loriann, and Brenley; three great grandchildren, Bentley, Jedidiah, and Riley; and his canine companion, Brodie. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 5th, 2-3:15PM at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow in the sanctuary at 3:30PM, officiated by Reverend Chris Snelgrove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1335 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.
