Alexander Murray Glenn

Moore, SC- Alexander Murray Glenn passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home in Spartanburg, SC on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Murray was born in Charlotte, NC and was the son of Martha McDonald Robinson and James H. Glenn, Jr.

Murray attended Charlotte Country Day School from preschool through graduation in 1988. He was editor of the school paper and a member of the Golf team which won the North Carolina Independent School Championship all 4 years from the 9th-12th grade. Murray graduated from Elon College in 1992 where he was again, editor of the school paper.

After graduation from Elon, he worked as a News Correspondent in Lancaster and Spartanburg, SC until he joined the Solicitor’s Office in Spartanburg where he served for the last 22 years. Murray made a difference in this world by serving those in need which brought him great pleasure.

In addition to his parents, Murray is survived by stepmother, Beverly Glenn; stepfather, John Robinson; his sister, Marty Glenn Tomkins and her husband, Austin; his brother, James Glenn; and Belva Howard, a very special and loving companion for many years; they considered themselves life partners with their love for each other.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20th, 12:00 Noon at the JM Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Services will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/dunbarfuneralhome 

A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Benevolence Fund, Sheriff’s Office, 8045 Howard Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to First Tee Upstate, 3515 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
